The Huskers are going old-school. To celebrate the 300th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium, Nebraska will honor the era in which one of the most impressive streaks in college football began, wearing throwback uniforms for the Sept. 26 game against Louisiana-Lafayette according to the Lincoln Journal Star. Nebraska players will wear the same uniform design that the team wore in 1962 during Bob Devaney’s first season as NU coach. The jerseys then had a simple design with softer-edged numbers and no white stripes on the sleeves. The helmets were white but had no red stripe along the middle, and they didn’t have the red ‘N’ on each side that has become associated with Husker football. Instead, the player’s number appeared on each side in black. The sellout streak began during the 1962 season, when a capacity crowd of 31,080 filled Memorial Stadium for a Homecoming contest against Missouri. The 6:00 game against Louisiana-Lafayette, which will be televised on pay-per-view, will mark Homecoming for the Huskers this fall.

Former Husker Alex Gordon will return to Rosenblatt Stadium on Friday as part of a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Omaha Royals according to the Lincoln Journal Star. Gordon, Kansas City’s first-round draft pick in 2005, played in just seven games with the big league club before undergoing surgery on April 17 to repair torn cartilage in his right hip. He began a rehab assignment Friday with the Surprise Royals in the rookie-level Arizona League. Club officials said Gordon is expected to play in just this Friday’s game with Omaha before continuing his rehab stint with Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Friday’s game with New Orleans is set for 6:35 p.m.
