Mariano Rivera reached a milestone last night after helping himself at the plate. Rivera became the second pitcher in major league history with 500 career saves, getting four outs in the New York Yankees' 4-2 win over the New York Mets. He stranded the potential tying run at second to end the eighth before working out a bases-loaded walk in his third career plate appearance. The Yankees managed to complete a three-game sweep and post their fifth straight despite collecting just two hits after the first inning of Sunday's game.

O'Neill's John Hurley won his second match play title yesterday defeating Andy Sajevic of Fremont 7 and 6 in the tournament's 36-hole final at Willow Lakes Golf Club. Hurley never trailed taking holes 2, 4, 6 and 8 before Sajevic won the 10th hole with par. It was the last hole he'd win in the morning session as Hurley finished the first 18 holes 5 up. The momentum continued for Hurley in the afternoon round as he built his lead to 8 holes at the turn before Sajevic again claimed the 10th hole trimming the lead to 7. The pair halved the par 3 11th hole with pars and the 12th hole with eagle 3's ending the match 7 and 6. Hurley has two years of eligibility remaining at Texas A&M University where his team won the national championship in May. He previously won the match play championship in 2007.
