Work to Begin Soon on Next Phase of Project

NORFOLK - The Madison County Commissioners have authorized advertizing for bids on the next phase of the Northeast Industrial Highway project. County Road Superintendent Dick Johnson says the three-phase project will eventually connect Highways 35 and 81 north of Norfolk. The first phase of the project was opened to the public earlier this summer, and Johnson says he expects work on the next phase to begin yet this fall. Johnson says the engineer's estimate for cost on this phase of the highway is $5.8 million, and includes a bridge over Spring Branch and a viaduct over the railroad and Victory Road. The cost of the $11 million project is being shared by the City of Norfolk, Madison and Stanton counties, and the Madison County Railroad Transportation Safety District.
