Wayne Job Fair Scheduled for Displaced Workers

WAYNE -  After the October 4th tornado badly damaged a Wayne factory used to make mattress pads, the Wayne community and all of Northeast Nebraska hoped that the Seattle-based company that owned the facility, would choose to rebuild in Wayne.  But last week, officials for Pacific Coast Feather announced they would instead, transfer the 137 Wayne jobs to North Carolina.  As a result, Wayne Area Economic Development has quickly organized a job fair for the displaced workers.  It’s scheduled for Friday from 11 to 1 at Gardner Hall - 1118 Walnut Street - on the campus of Wayne State College.  Economic Development Executive Director Wes Blecke says the event is not being advertised as an open job fair; it’s specifically for the benefit of the displaced workers, but, Blecke says no one will be turned away.  Blecke asks leaders for businesses who plan to have representatives at the job fair to RSVP at (402) 375-2240.  But, since it is being put together so quickly, it’s also okay to just show up without calling first.
