Vehicle Takes Odd Route from Plaza to USA Steak Buffet

NORFOLK - It is a little hard to visualize the route a minivan took as it traveled from the entrance to the Sunset Plaza on Center Drive to the USA Steak Buffet on South 13th Street – but the damage is unmistakable. Norfolk Police Captain Michael Bauer says Brandon Bartusch, 20, of Norfolk was driving the 2000 Mercury Villager about 3:43 Sunday morning. He traveled southeast from Center Drive over a curb and a large shrub and through a grass field, entering the back side of the Wendy’s restaurant parking lot at 1030 South 13th Street. The minivan then struck an advertising sign in the Wendy’s drive-through and rammed into the USA Steak Buffet Building at 1032 South 13th. A natural gas line was broken, and the resulting fire damaged both the car and the business, which includes Mudder’s Sports Bar. Bauer says Bartusch received minor injuries and was treated at Faith Regional Health Services. He was cited for driving under the influence of drugs and criminal mischief.
