Trial begins for man charged with 2 Antelope County murders

NELIGH, Neb. (AP) - Open arguments have begun in the trial of a man who is accused of killing a Nebraska couple last year.  Matthew Hinrichsen is charged with two counts first-degree murder for the deaths of Victoria Lee and her husband, Alex Vargas. Vargas died from three gunshot wounds, and Lee died of blunt force trauma to her head. Their bodies were found in a trailer in rural Antelope County, where the newlyweds were living.  Prosecutor Sandra Allen told jurors that Hinrichsen shot the couple in December 2012 because he had decided that "if he couldn't have her, nobody could."  The trial is expected to last at least a week, with 35 witnesses slated to testify.
