Superintendent Discusses Legislative Issues

NORFOLK - Norfolk Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jami Jo Thompson gave an update on legislative issues for members of the Board of Education at that group’s meeting earlier this week.  Thompson says the Legislature’s Education Committee once thought there were huge problems with the state aid formula for K-12 education, but have come to the conclusion that the formula is “generally okay.”  Thompson says the Education Committee would like to add money to the state aid fund for things like special education, poverty, and mobility issues.  Thompson says the committee would also like to establish a trust fund to provide more stable and predictable funding for schools in times of economic downturns, but don’t know where that extra money would come from.
