State Tax Revenue Narrowly Beats Jan. Forecast
LINCOLN (AP) - Nebraska's tax revenue came in slightly better than expected in January, but that's not likely to improve the grim overall outlook for the next state budget. The state Department of Revenue reports net tax collections for January totaled $289.9 million. That's a little bit better than the expected $289.2 million. Through the first seven months of Nebraska's fiscal year, net revenue is about 1 percent ahead of the forecast of $1.9 billion. The state is facing a possible $1 billion shortfall in the next two-year budget that lawmakers will have to contend with.
