State Cross Country Championships come to conclusion
The State Cross Country Championships were held at the Kearney Country Club today. In the Class "A" Boys Competition, Fremont was the team champion with 64 points. They won by two points. Norfolk finished tenth with 262. Individually, Millard West's Joseph Harter was the champion by just under 14 seconds. Norfolk's Ben Protzman was 39th, Zach Hoffie placed 60th, Tejai Clausen got 63rd, Andrew Meuret took 68th place, Austin Warren finished 82nd, Ryan Hoffie was 92nd, and Derek Johnson placed 93rd. In the Class "A" Girls Race, Lincoln East was the team champion with 62 points. They won by five points. Norfolk finished ninth with 235 points. Lincoln North Star's Jeralyn Poe was the champion in 14:42.6. She won by just under eight seconds. Norfolk's Abby Protzman was 19th, Erika Kumm finished 53rd, Jordan Copple got 66th place, Stacie Skaff took 71st, Sara Reyes was 79th, Pollyanna Carlson finished 81st, and Brittany Albin was 97th. In the Class "B" Boys race, Mount Michael Benedictine claimed the team champion with 25 points. They won by seven points. Matthew Barraza of Scottsbluff was the champion in 16:22.1. He won by just over six seconds. In the Class "B" Girls race, Seward was the team champion with a total of 41. They won by 22 points. Erin Lee of York claimed the race in 14:55.1. She won by just over 15 seconds. In the Class "C" Boys race, Milford was the team champion with 50 points. They won by 15. James McKeag of Ogallala was the champion in 16:53.2. He won by 1.7 seconds. Norfolk Catholic's Jared Maguire finished in 53rd place. In the Class "C" Girls race, Columbus Scotus was the team champion with a total of 43. They won by 13 points. Boone Central/Newman Grove was third with 69 and West Point-Beemer finished fourth with 72 points. Individually, Gabriella Gracia of Holdrege was the champion in 14:48.2. She won by just under nine seconds. Columbus Scotus' Morgan Benesch was second, Hannah Schmitz of Boone Central/Newman Grove finished fourth, Aryn Smidt of West Point-Beemer took sixth, Cassie Heier of Wayne placed tenth, Norfolk Catholic's Joelle Heng was eleventh in 16:09.2, Jessica Schaecher of Columbus Scotus placed 13th, and Norfolk Catholic's Nicole Aschoff finished 26th. In Class "D" Boys, Nebraska Christian was the team champion with 46 points. They won by 25. Stanton was third with 75 and Crofton took fourth with 76. Individually, Bridgeport's Cody Franklin claimed the race in 16:33.9. He won by eight seconds. West Holt's Brett Pacha was tenth, Stanton's Dexter Patterson took 13th, Chambers/Wheeler Central's John Walnofer placed 14th, and Drew Eskins finished 15th. In the Class "D" Girls race, Crofton was the team champion with 23 points. They won by 53 points. Stanton finished fifth with 120. Individually, Marissa Dewispelare of David City Aquinas was the champion in 15:08.8. She won by just over 38 seconds. Danielle Riesberg of Crofton was second, Mackenzie Gray of Winside took third, Braska Patterson of Stanton finished sixth, Kendy Kube of Crofton placed seventh, Bloomfield's Breana Gallup was tenth, Crofton's Quinn Wragge & Tiffany Tramp were 13th & 14th respectively.
