The Cleveland Browns are making changes at running back, trading Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a first-round pick in next year's draft. Richardson has struggled with injuries since being selected third overall in last year's draft following a standout career at Alabama. The Browns plan to bring in running back Willis McGahee for a physical.

Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman and athletic director Shawn Eichorst say they believe football coach Bo Pelini is sincere in his apology for a profane rant against fans two years ago and the university is ready to put the matter to rest. The joint statement released yesterday said former athletic director Tom Osborne was aware of the recording more than a year ago and addressed the matter with Pelini at the time. The statement said Pelini's demeanor has "significantly improved" since then and that Pelini understands the "seriousness and inappropriateness" of the comments. A recording of the rant was leaked to the Deadspin.com sports website this week.
Three weeks into the season, half of the Big Ten's defenses are under aerial attack. Six of the conference's teams are allowing 250 or more yards passing a game. Nebraska gave up big yards in a 41-21 loss to UCLA. Coach Bo Pelini said his defense looked good at times. But they gave up big yardage in the decisive third quarter. Illinois coach Tim Beckman says his team failed to pressure Washington quarterback Keith Price in a 34-24 loss. Price threw for 342 yards. Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald's team is giving up 319 yards a game. He says he hopes weak defenses don't mean an offensive explosion is ahead in conference play.
American Jordan Burroughs won his second wrestling world championship yesterday, defeating a wrestler from Iran in the final. Burroughs, a gold medalist at the 2012 Olympics, extended his undefeated streak to 65 matches with a 4-0 victory in the 74-kilogram category in Budapest. After the final, Burroughs revealed that he broke his ankle during training on Aug. 22 but was able to recuperate quickly after surgery. On his way to the title, he also defeated opponents from Tajikistan, India and Azerbaijan. In the semifinals, a wrestler from Belarus, was disqualified after cautions for attacks to Burroughs' face. Burroughs, who won two NCAA championships at the University of Nebraska, was defending the title he earned in Istanbul in 2011.
