Raul Ibanez tied it with a pinch-hit homer in the ninth inning then had an RBI single in the twelfth inning as the New York Yankees remain a game up on Baltimore in the American League East with one game to go by beating the Boston Red Sox 4-3 last night.  If the teams end up even after today's games, they'll play a tiebreaker Thursday in Baltimore with the winner being crowned the AL East champion and the loser going to the playoffs as the wild card.
 
The Oakland Athletics beat Texas 3-1 last night and will play the Rangers today at home for the American League West title.  The two-time American League champion Rangers send out 7-3 Ryan Dempster against the Athletics' A.J. Griffin, who is 7-1.  Today's winner is the division champion while the loser goes in as a wild card.
 
The race for best record in the National League will come down to the last day of the season as well.  Both the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals have 97 victories entering today's games, although the Nationals own the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Following a loss at Tulsa and a tie at Drake, the Creighton men's soccer team fell to 24th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll yesterday.  This marks the 30th consecutive week that Creighton has been ranked in the NSCAA Top 25.  The Jays also dropped to fourth in the NSCAA Midwest Regional Rankings.  Creighton is ranked 19th by College Soccer News, 21st by Soccer Times & TopDrawer Soccer.  Soccer America dropped the Jays out of its rankings.  Creighton responded with a 1-0 home win over Loyola of Chicago 1-0 yesterday.  They improve to 6-3-2 overall.

The Norfolk Catholic girls golf team is headed to the Class “C” State Championships for the second consecutive year.  The Lady Knights claimed the C-3 District Meet at the Plainview Country Club yesterday.  They shot a 394 with Boone Central finishing second at 407 and Columbus Scotus took third carding a 419.  All three teams qualify for the Championships.  Boone Central’s Amy Ahlers was the medalist with an 81.  Norfolk Catholic’s Paige Marsden placed second shooting a 91.  Teammate Ashlen Pospisil took fifth with a 97, Hannah Baldacci was eighth carding a 101, and Lexi McCoy tied for tenth with a 105.  The Lady Knights’ Courtney Jundt shot a 154.  The Two-day Championships start on Monday at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus.
