     ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The opportunistic Chicago Bears lead the NFL with 14 takeaways and are sporting a 3-1 record as a result of that defense. Tony Romo tossed a career-high five interceptions and the Bears embarrassed the Dallas Cowboys 34-18 last night.
 
     OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The Oakland Athletics are back in the playoffs for the first time in six years after they beat the first-place Texas Rangers 4-3 to remain in contention for a division crown. Coco Crisp had a go-ahead RBI double in the fifth as Oakland pulled within one game of Texas in the down-to-the-wire AL West race.
 
     KANSAS CITY (AP) - The Detroit Tigers are in the postseason for a second consecutive season for the first time since 1934-35.  Miguel Cabrera had four hits, including a homer during a five-run sixth inning, and the Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 6-3 last night to clinch the AL Central title.
 
     WASHINGTON (AP) - The Washington Nationals are celebrating their first NL East title despite dropping a 2-0 loss to Philadelphia. The Nationals, who've led the NL East since May, clinched when runner-up Atlanta lost 2-1 in Pittsburgh.
 
     NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Yankees have a one-game lead over Baltimore in the AL East race with two games to play. The Yanks routed Boston 10-2 while the Tampa Bay Rays were beating the Orioles 5-3.


The Nebraska volleyball team moved up from sixth to fourth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll released yesterday.  The Huskers went 2-0 last week and are now 11-2 on the season.  Penn State remains number one with Oregon & Washington tied for second.  Penn State is 14-1 on the year while Oregon & Washington are both 13-1.  

The Norfolk High girls golf team has qualified for the NSAA State Championships for the tenth consecutive year.  The Lady Panthers won yesterday’s A-4 District Meet at Lake Mahoney Golf Course in North Platte.  They shot 351 as a team, winning by 22 strokes.  Lincoln Southwest’s Ellie Wiltfong was the medalist carding an 85.  She won the four-way tie via tiebreaker criteria.  Norfolk’s Sydney Roenfeldt and Jenna Weber placed third & fourth respectively with an 85.  McKenzie Essley took seventh shooting an 88.  Also for Norfolk, Kayla Bahle shot a 93 and Tiffany Henning put up a 96.  The Norfolk Country Club will host the Class “A” Championships next Monday & Tuesday.

The Omaha World Herald & Lincoln Journal Star have updated their high school volleyball rankings.  The Class "C-2" Two-time Defending State Champion Lutheran High Northeast Eagles remain second in the Omaha World Herald and third in the Lincoln Journal Star.  The Lady Eagles are 15-3 on the season after beating Crofton in their lone match last week.  They will be in action next tonight when they participate in the Clarkson/Leigh triangular at Clarkson.  Lutheran High Northeast will face the 7-10 host team at 5:30 and 10-6 Shelby/Rising City at 6:30.  Norfolk Catholic is once again third in both media in Class “C-1”.  The Lady Knights are 16-1 on the year and winners of twelve matches in a row after winning their lone match over West Point/Beemer last week.  They will be in action next when they visit 6-11 Battle Creek on Thursday.
