Mike Napoli homered and the Boston Red Sox moved within one win of reaching the World Series by edging the Detroit Tigers 4-3.  Boston returns to Fenway Park with a 3-2 lead in the American League Championship Series.  Game Six is Saturday with the Tigers' Max Scherzer facing the Red Sox's Clay Buchholz.

Russell Wilson tossed three touchdown passes and the Seattle Seahawks reinforced their grip on first place in the NFC West with a 34-22 road win over the Arizona Cardinals last night.  The 6-1 Seahawks now have a game and a-half lead over San Francisco in the NFC West as the 3-4 Cardinals lost for the seventh straight time against an NFC West team.

The Norfolk High boys tennis team's season has reached the end at the State Championships in Omaha.  Mitch Dudley went 0-1 in #1 Singles after losing to an opponent from Omaha Westside.  Keaton Kreikemeier was 1-1 in #2 Singles.  He beat a foe from Millard South and lost to an opponent from Millard North.  Landon Marotz & Dexter Renter recorded a 1-1 record in #1 Doubles.  They defeated an opponent from Omaha Bryan and lost in the second round to a team from Lincoln Southeast.  Alex Busskohl & Luke Prauner went 1-1 in #2 Doubles.  They beat an opponent from Lincoln Northeast and then lost in the second round to a team from Lincoln East.

The Norfolk High cross country team hosted the A-1 District Meet yesterday at Skyview Lake.  In the girls race, Norfolk High placed third to qualify for the State Championships next week.  Kearney was the champion with a score of 47.  Bellevue West took second with a 57 and the Lady Panthers totaled 70.  Megan Sughroue of Kearney was the medalist with a time of 19:52.  She won by eight seconds.  Norfolk's Abby Protzman placed fourth and Breanna Harthoorn was seventh.  Also on the team are Madison Reynoldson, Madison Clausen, Erika Kumm, Aurora Gates, and Alison Finn.  In the boys race, Omaha Westside was the team champion with a score of 58.  They won by nine points.  Grand Island's Collin Appel was the medalist with a time of 16:59.  He won by nine seconds.  Norfolk's Austin Warren placed sixth while teammate Andrew Meuret finished 15th.  They qualified for the State Championships next week.

The Norfolk Catholic cross country squad hosted the C-3 District Meet yesterday at Skyview Lake.  In the girls race, Norfolk Catholic placed third to qualify for the State Championships next week.  Wayne was the team champion with a score of 33.  Boone Central/Newman Grove took second with 35 and the Lady Knights totaled 49.  Marta Pulfer of Wayne was the medalist with a time of 20:53.08.  She won by just over seven seconds.  Norfolk Catholic's Joelle Heng was second and Nicole Aschoff placed ninth.  Also on the team are Jennifer Blank, Alex Anderson, Ashlyn Hauser, and Jana Unger.  In the boys race, Fort Calhoun was the team champion with a score of 34.  Boone Central/Newman Grove was second with 48 and O'Neill took third with a score of 68.  All three teams qualified for the State Championships next week.  Columbus Lakeview's Kaleb Lusche was the medalist with a time of 17:42.98.  He won by less than eleven seconds.  Norfolk Catholic's Cameron Carney placed eleventh and Matthew Wieser took 14th.  They qualified for the State Championships next week.
