Jonathan Martin, the offensive tackle at the center of the Miami Dolphins' bullying scandal, has been traded to the San Francisco 49ers.  Martin's move cross country brings him back to the Bay Area to be reunited with his former Stanford coach, Jim Harbaugh.  An investigation for the NFL determined last month that Dolphins guard Richie Incognito and two other offensive linemen engaged in persistent harassment of Martin, another offensive lineman and an assistant trainer.
The NFL free-agency signing period began yesterday, and the Dallas Cowboys made room under the salary cap by releasing DeMarcus Ware.  The franchise sack leader was due to make $16 million this season, his 10th in the NFL.  Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he will attempt to re-sign Ware, who had a career-low six sacks last season and is recovering from offseason elbow surgery.

Creighton forward Doug McDermott has been named the National Player of the Year by Sporting News &  He leads the nation in scoring at 26.5 points per game, ranks second in field goals and third in points scored.  In the process, he's moved up to seventh in NCAA history with 3,011 career points.  McDermott is the nation's first player in 25 years with three straight years of 750 points or more and one of three men all-time with at least 3,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.  He was also named the District VI Player of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association for the second straight season.  McDermott's also a First Team All-District pick for a third straight season.  In addition, he previously was been honored by as its National Player of the Year.

The Nebraska-Omaha men's basketball team has been tapped to host a first-round game in the 2014 Postseason Tournament.  The Mavericks' matchup remains unknown, as the full tournament bracket will be announced on March 16.  UNO's first-round CIT game will be played at Ralston Arena at 7:00 on March 18 or March 19.  The Mavericks, who finished with a regular-season record of 16-14 & 5-9 in the Summit League, will make their first postseason appearance since beginning the reclassification to Division I in 2011-12.
