Cornerback Patrick Peterson says he has reached agreement on a five-year, $70 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals, with $48 million guaranteed.  Peterson revealed the terms via twitter last night.  The Cardinals announced the deal a short time later, but did not disclose the terms.  Peterson has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons in the NFL, first as a kick returner then the last two seasons at cornerback, after Arizona made him the fifth pick overall out of LSU in 2011.  He had two years left on his original contract after Arizona had picked up its fifth-year option earlier this year.

Boston Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester will not make his scheduled start today, but he has not been traded yet.  "No deal yet," a major league source with direct knowledge of Lester trade talks last night. "He could still pitch Friday for the Red Sox against the Yankees.”  Lester left the clubhouse immediately after yesterday's game.  Another source close to Lester said no one from the Red Sox had said a word to either the pitcher or his agent, Seth Levinson, regarding a trade last night.  The Pittsburgh Pirates emerged yesterday as a potential trading partner for Lester, with a source confirming that the Sox have had talks with the Pirates regarding the left-hander.  There are six teams still in the running, the source said, listing them in no particular order: the Pirates, Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, and Los Angeles Dodgers.  The Red Sox are seeking two top prospects in return and are particularly interested in outfielders.

Manny Machado homered off Cory Rasmus leading off the twelfth inning to give the Baltimore Orioles a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels last night.  Machado hit a breaking ball from Rasmus into the seats in left field to end the back-and-forth duel between American League contenders.  Ryan Webb worked out of a two-on, two-out jam in the top of the twelfth for the Orioles, who improved to 12-3 in extra innings.  Adam Jones and Nick Markakis homered for Baltimore, playing its first home game since the All-Star break.  Josh Hamilton homered and had three RBIs for the Angels, who have dropped eight of their last eleven games against the Orioles.

The Nebraska football team will wear alternate uniforms for one game.  The Lincoln Journal Star reports that Coach Bo Pelini made the announcement at Big Ten Media Days yesterday in Chicago.  Pelini said he saw the uniform a couple months ago but didn't give any hints as to the look.  Pelini said "Don't hold me to it, but I think it's the Illinois game," he said. "I think it's the Big Ten opener. I think that announcement is coming up pretty quick."  The Nebraska-Illinois game is on Sept. 27, with an 8:00 kickoff for BTN.  Nebraska wore all red alternate uniforms with a black block 'N' across the chest two years ago against Wisconsin, and black jerseys against UCLA last season.

Nebraska trails Kansas 6-2 following Four-Ball and Foursomes play in the 29th Nebraska-Kansas Junior Cup Matches at Topeka Country Club after yesterday.  Nebraska was led by Alex Schaake of Omaha who teamed to earn a win and a halve in his two matches.  Humphrey’s Trevor Kosch teamed up and lost his opening round match before earning a halve in his second round match.  Eight singles matches conclude the competition today.  Kansas leads the overall series 15-13 including wins in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
