Brandon Marshall's record-setting performance allowed the AFC to come away with a 59-41 win over the NFC at the Pro Bowl in Honolulu. Marshall became the first player in Pro Bowl history to grab four touchdown passes while he caught six receptions for 176 yards. The two teams combined for 51 first downs, 943 passing yards and 1,142 total yards.
The Miami Heat won a battle of the top two teams in the NBA's Eastern Conference yesterday as LeBron James scored 35 points in a 97-93 triumph over the Chicago Bulls. Chris Bosh added 24 points and twelve rebounds to help Miami improve to 15-5, one game behind the East-leading Bulls with two games in hand. Bulls guard Derrick Rose had a team-high 34 points but missed two free throws in the final 23 seconds.
The Norfolk Panther boys basketball team remains ranked second in the “Nebraska Top 10” & Class “A” in the Omaha World Herald. The newspaper updated it’s high school basketball rankings for Classes “A” & “B” today. Two-time Defending State Champion Omaha Central is once again first with Norfolk second. The 17-0 Panthers earned wins over the weekend with a 74-65 home win over Lincoln Southwest and a 77-72 road win at Kearney. Norfolk is outscoring their opponents on average this season 70.5-54.8. They return to action this week with a home game with 3-14 Fremont on Friday night and a road game at 9-8 ninth ranked Bellevue West on Saturday.
The Mid States Conference Tournament continues today at various sites. In the girls bracket, in games played at Northeast Community College, 13-3 Norfolk Catholic hosts 4-10 Hartington Cedar Catholic at 7:45. The previous contest pits 11-5 O’Neill against 9-6 Pierce at 6:15. In games at Norfolk Catholic High School, 16-2 Boone Central tangles with 2-16 Madison at 6:15 and 13-6 Wayne plays 12-5 West Point Guardian Angels at 7:45. Six of the teams are ranked in the top ten of the state.
