     NEW YORK (AP) - Major League Baseball is fuming about an
arbitrator's decision to overturn National League MVP Ryan Braun's
50-game suspension, the first time a ballplayer's drug-related
grievance has been nullified. MLB official Rob Manfred says
baseball management "vehemently disagrees" with the arbitrator's
decision.
     
     MIAMI (AP) - The Miami Heat cooled off Jeremy Lin last night en
route to their eighth straight win, 102-88 over the New York
Knicks. Lin had a long night, making just 1 of 11 shots, dishing
out just three assists and committing eight turnovers in the final
night of NBA action before Sunday's All-Star game.
     
     DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth won
yesterday's twin 150-mile qualifying races for Sunday's Daytona
500. Stewart, the defending NASCAR champion who's 0-for-13 in the
Daytona 500, joined Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle on the front row
while Kenseth earned the fourth spot in the 33-car field.
     
     TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Reserve Andre Dawkins scored 22 points
and freshman Austin Rivers added 20 to lead No. 5 Duke to a 74-66
victory over No. 15 Florida State last night. The win keeps the
Blue Devils tied with No. 7 North Carolina for first place in the
Atlantic Coast Conference while Florida State dropped a game
behind.
     
     DETROIT (AP)-- The Detroit Red Wings' NHL record run of 23
straight home victories ended last night at Joe Louis Arena. Daniel
Sedin scored his second goal of the game with 15.4
seconds left in regulation and Alex Burrows had the only score in a
shootout in the Vancouver Canucks' 4-3 victory that resulted in the
Red Wings' first home loss since Nov. 3 against Calgary.


Nebraska has completed its 2012 football schedule with the announcement of a Sept. 22 home game against Idaho State.  The athletic department also said Thursday that non-conference home games have been finalized with Florida Atlantic in 2014, BYU in 2015 and South Alabama in 2015 and 2019.  Idaho State is an FCS member from the Big Sky Conference.  The Bengals were 2-9 last season, with one of their wins against Division II Western State.  They lost eight straight to finish.  In the past three seasons Idaho State has played BYU, Washington State, Georgia, Arizona State and Oklahoma.  The 2014 opener against Florida Atlantic will pit Nebraska coach Bo Pelini against his brother, Carl, who was named Owls head coach in December after serving as Bo's defensive coordinator from 2008-11.

The Defending Champs are still alive in their quest to repeat.  The Norfolk Catholic boys basketball team knocked off Pierce in the C-1-7 Sub-District Final last night at Norfolk High 43-28.  Riley Knake had 18 points and six rebounds while teammate Connor Ketter recorded a double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and two steals in the win.  The Knights led 19-9 at halftime.  The Bluejays’ Connor Reed scored twelve points in a losing effort.  NC improves to 18-6 and will face Boone Central in a district final on Monday at a site to be determined.  Boone Central beat St. Paul in their sub-district final last night 42-39.  The Knights have now won three games in a row and five of their last six.  They also ran their win streak against Pierce to six games dating back to 2008-2009.  Pierce’ final mark is 14-8.

The Norfolk Panthers are represented in day two of the State Swim Meet today at 9:00 AM at the Devaney Center in Lincoln.  Participating in the boys preliminaries will be Austin Hall, Trevor Spence, Patrick Meuret, Stephen Meuret, Colby Spence, & Brodie Morgan.  Involved in the girls preliminaries are Morgan Broekemeier, Mariah Blecher, Shelby Mayer, MacKenzie Ritter, Brittany Albin, Sydney Reed, & Allison Broekemeier.  The finals will be held tomorrow at 11:00.
