Manny Ramirez could be back in the big leagues this season.  The 39 year-old Ramirez signed a $500,000 minor league deal with Oakland and could be eligible to play in late May, after he fulfills a 50-game suspension handed down by Major League Baseball for failing his second drug test.

Linsanity ran into reality last night at Madison Square Garden where the lowly New Jersey Nets upset the New York Knicks 100-92.  All-Star Deron Williams clicked for a season-high 38 points in outplaying Jeremy Lin, who still got 21 points and nine assists in a losing cause.

Creighton men’s basketball coach Greg McDermott says his team should lock up their first NCAA tournament bid since 2007 if they can finish the regular season with two wins.  McDermott said yesterday that a loss to either Evansville or Indiana State will leave the Bluejays feeling anxious heading to St. Louis for next week's Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.  Creighton is 23-5 overall and 12-4 in the MVC.  They lost three straight games before winning at Southern Illinois and at home in dramatic fashion against Long Beach State in Saturday's BracketBuster game.  McDermott said he hopes NCAA selection committee members who watched the 81-79 win over the 49ers on Antoine Young's last-second shot were impressed.  The Bluejays play Evansville at home tonight at 7:00.  The Aces are 14-13 overall and 8-8 in the conference.  Evansville beat Creighton 65-57 two weeks ago.  In other Bluejay news, sophomore forward Doug McDermott has been named the MVC Player of the Week after the 2-0 week.  This is his fifth honor of the season, second-most in league history.  McDermott helped Creighton snap a three-game losing streak by averaging 27.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in two victories last week.
