According to the Omaha World Herald & Lincoln Journal Star, all indications point to Nebraska defensive coordinator Carl Pelini becoming the next head football coach at Florida Atlantic. Reached last night, Pelini declined comment. A source close to the situation said "nothing has been finalized." But according to multiple reports, an announcement could come Monday, which would avoid upstaging Howard Schnellenberger's final game this weekend as the team's head coach. CBS Sports first reported that Pelini is expected to take the job. ESPN.com later reported that Pelini has "a verbal agreement" with FAU and would be introduced as the Owls' next coach Monday. The 46-year-old Pelini has served as the Huskers' defensive coordinator under his brother Bo since 2008. The Nebraska defense found its greatest success in 2009. NU led the country in scoring defense, pass-efficiency defense and red-zone defense. The Huskers followed that up by ranking ninth in scoring defense and eleventh in total defense in 2010. This year, Nebraska's defense slipped some and currently is 36th in total defense.
