Preseason honors continued to roll in for Nebraska senior I-back Rex Burkhead yesterday, when he was named a second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated.  Burkhead was one of four running backs tabbed as a preseason All-American, joining Wisconsin's Montee Ball to give the Big Ten two All-America backs.  For Burkhead, it was his second preseason All-America honor, as Athlon also tabbed him as a second-team running back. A native of Texas, Burkhead is also one of 50 players on the watch list for the Walter Camp Award and one of 65 candidates for the Doak Walker Award.  He carried 284 times for 1,357 yards last season in a workhorse role for the Huskers.  Burkhead posted the second-highest carry total in school history, while tallying the seventh-highest rushing total in NU history and the highest by a Husker I-back since 1997.  He ranked 19th nationally in rushing last fall, averaging 104.4 yards per game.  Burkhead enters his senior season with 2,654 career rushing yards.

A year after his hiring, Nebraska baseball coach Darin Erstad has a contract.  Erstad has a four-year deal through the 2016 season paying him $163,200 annually.  Based on his current salary, the contract calls for him to receive a bonus of $13,600 for winning a Big Ten title or earning an NCAA tournament bid, $20,400 for achieving both, $27,200 for making the College World Series and $40,800 for winning a national championship.  The contract was signed June 3rd.  The Cornhuskers were 35-23 overall and finished fourth in the Big Ten in Erstad's first season.  Erstad, a two-time All-Star who earned about $50 million in 14 major-league seasons, had an initial salary of $160,000 at Nebraska.  Former coach Mike Anderson was paid $330,000 in 2010, his last season.
