'Red' rallies past the 'White' in the second annual Northeast Nebraska Football Classic

Winside’s Caleb Lienemann scored on a 19 yard touchdown run with 7:53 remaining in the fourth quarter and the ‘Red’ team rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat the ‘White’ squad 20-14 in the second annual Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic at Norfolk’s Veterans Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.  The ‘Red’ team’s Shaka Taylor of Lutheran High Northeast threw a touchdown pass and ran for another in the victory.  White team quarterback Taylor Reedy of Norfolk High threw two first half touchdowns to stake his team to a 14-0 lead.  Boone Central/Newman Grove’s Tyler Hedlund & Casey Wisnieski of Howells/Dodge were the recipients of the touchdown passes.  Reedy finished 21-39 for 293 yards and two touchdowns along with two interceptions, however he only threw for 70 yards in the second half and was intercepted late in the fourth quarter to snuff out the ‘White’ team’s final drive.  Hedlund caught eight passes for 98 yards and a score.  Wisnieski hauled in five passes for 95 yards and a touchdown.  The ‘White’ team outgained the ‘Red’ squad in yardage 413-325.  Wynot’s Davis Wieseler caught Taylor’s touchdown pass for the ‘Red’ team.  Norfolk Catholic’s Jackson Love & Taylor Kathol of Hartington Cedar Catholic were named offensive & defensive players of the game for the ‘Red’ team while Hedlund & Norfolk High’s Landen Thieman were honored as offensive & defensive player of the game for the ‘White’ team.  Long-time Norfolk Daily News Sports Editor, Denny Fuehrer and National Hall of Fame High School Football Coach Bob Schnitzler of Battle Creek were the first recipients of the Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic Lifetime Awards.  NFL referee & former Norfolk Panther Clete Blakeman provided the honorary coin toss.  The announced attendance was 2490.
