Northeast Hawks basketball teams swept by Iowa Western

The Northeast Hawks basketball teams were swept in a doubleheader at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa last Saturday.  In the women’s game, the 18th ranked Reivers whipped the eleventh ranked Hawks 85-65.  AJ Johnson led four players in double figures for Northeast with 15 points and five assists.  Teammate Jaylan Spencer netted twelve points and seven rebounds.  Ivana Vuletic & Emily Gamble both scored ten points.  The Hawks’ 16 game win streak was snapped with the loss.  Northeast will play next when they visit Council Bluffs again on Saturday in a rematch with Iowa Western for the Region 11 Championship at 5:00.  The winner will advance to the Missouri district in postseason play.
    The Northeast men were beaten by the fifth ranked Reivers in their game 88-67.  The Hawks’ Sean Scott had 13 points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots to lead three players in double figures.  Teammate Rasheed Fairley scored twelve points, collected 14 rebounds, and had two blocked shots.  KJ Bluford added eleven points.  Northeast drops to 16-14.  The Hawks will be involved in postseason play this week.  Official scheduling will occur on Monday.
