Norfolk High girls golf wins state title! Norfolk Catholic finishes third
The Norfolk High girls golf team has won the Class “A” State Championship! It’s the third title in school history and first since 1998. Norfolk shot a two-day score of 696 at The Norfolk Country Club winning by twelve strokes. They shot a 345 on Monday and a 351 on Tuesday to claim the event. Lincoln Pius X was second with a 708. Omaha Marian’s Sarah Pravecek won the individual title with a 160. Norfolk’s Sydney Roenfeldt finished second at 167 while McKenzie Essley tied for fifth carding a 174. Columbus’ Samantha Beal tied for seventh with a 175 and Norfolk’s Kayla Bahle tied for ninth shooting a 177. Also for the Lady Panthers, Jenna Weber shot 183 and Tiffany Henning carded a 192. It was also head coach Jerry Cover’s last hurrah at the position as he is stepping down. He will remain as boys coach. In Class “B” at Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, Elkhorn South took the team title with a 661. They won by 35 strokes. Kaylee Samway of McCook was the individual champion with a 148. She won by nine strokes. In Class “C” at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus, Grand Island Central Catholic claimed the team championship with a 746. Ogallala was second at 751 and Norfolk Catholic took third with a 784. Individually, McKenna Kime of Grand Island Central Catholic won the individual championship with a 166. She won via tiebreaker over Maaika Mestl of Ogallala. Boone Central’s Amy Ahlers tied for third shooting a 171. Norfolk Catholic’s Paige Marsden finished tenth with a 189. Boone Central’s Melissa Kyncl tied for 14th carding a 191. Also for Norfolk Catholic, Lexi McCoy shot 193, Molly Langel put up a 197, Hannah Baldacci carded a 205, and Ashlen Pospisil shot 215. It’s Norfolk Catholic fifth top-three finish in school history.
