Norfolk High coach named finalist for National Coach of the Year
The National High School Athletic Coaches Association has officially notified Norfolk High boys golf coach Jerry Cover of his selection as a 2013 National Coach of the Year Finalist. His outstanding coaching longevity, win-loss record, championship years, awards received, and services to the coaching profession and to his athletes have earned him this national recognition. Cover has won three girls state titles, coached three individuals to state championships, and finished with ten runner-ups. This past fall, the Norfolk girls golf team won the Class “A” State Championship. It’s was the third title in school history and first since 1998. Cover stepped down as girls coach after the event but will remain as boys coach. As a Finalist for the 2013 Coach of the Year, he will be honored at the National Awards Banquet at the Holiday Inn in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, June 26, 2013.
