Norfolk city schools send 14 wrestlers to State Championships

The Norfolk Panthers will send ten wrestlers to the State Wrestling Championships at Century Link Center Omaha after last Saturday's A-1 District Meet in the Panther gym.  Grand Island won the meet with 191.5 points, Papillion La Vista was second with 159.5, and Norfolk took third with 134.5 points.  Reaching the state meet were Connor Neal, Kyle Temple, Christian Hernandez-DeHorta, Caleb Licking (2nd); Landen Thieman & Isaiah Francis (3rd); Nate Kathol, Shane Kalin, Dominick Carr, Dylan Grey (4th).  Norfolk Catholic will have three wrestlers in the Class 'C' competition after placing eighth at the C-2 District Meet at Battle Creek.  O'Neill was the team champion with 199 points.  They won by 20 points.  Norfolk Catholic totaled 72 while Lutheran High Northeast garnered 24 points to place 14th.  The Knights' Matthew Brtek finished second and Aaron Hoff & Nic Beed took fourth.  The Eagles' Ryan Bodlak's second place finish qualified him as well.  The State Championships get underway on Thursday.
