Lutheran High Northeast volleyball falls in championship & Northeast Hawks basketball

The Lutheran High Northeast volleyball team’s quest for a three-peat has fallen short.  They lost to Hartington Cedar Catholic in the Class “C-2” State Championship match on Saturday in four sets.  Scores of the match had the Lady Trojans winning 25-15, 14-25, 25-14, 25-22.  The Lady Eagles were led by Morgan Sunderman’s 14 kills and six blocks.  Teammate Morgan Uhlir had eleven kills.  Megan Gebhardt recorded 26 set assists, three blocks, two aces, and five digs.  Teammate Kelsey Sunderman had eleven digs.  Lutheran High Northeast’s final record is 30-6.  It’s Hartington Cedar Catholic’s first volleyball championship since 1989.

The Northeast Hawks basketball teams split two games at the Hawks Classic yesterday.  The Northeast men dropped an 84-72 decision to Iowa Lakes Community College.  The Hawks’ KJ Bluford had 20 points as he was 4-10 from three-point range.  He also had two steals.  Teammates Sean Scott contributed 17 points.  He had three three-pointers and two steals.  Khapri Alston added 13 points and six rebounds.  The Lakers led at half-time 44-42.  Northeast is now 2-2 on the season.  The Northeast women defeated Iowa Lakes in their game 61-46 to improve to 5-0 on the season.  The Hawks’ Raveen Murray had 13 points, four rebounds, and two steals.  Teammate Jaylan Spencer added eleven points and four rebounds.  Ivana Vuletic added ten points.  A.J. Johnson led four players in double figures with 22 points, eight assists, and two steals.  The Hawks led 29-26 at half-time.
