Day One of Boys State Golf Championships are in books
Day One of the Boys State Golf Championships are in the books. In Class ‘A’, at Holmes Golf Course in Lincoln, Omaha Creighton Prep has the lead with a 279. They lead by eleven stokes. Norfolk shot an opening day 311 which ties them for sixth place. Lincoln Southeast’s Clayton Peterson carded an opening round 66. He leads by a single stroke. Norfolk’s Alex Strom is tied for third with a 68. Teammate Devan Maas shot 79, Ross Gerber carded an 81, Preston Marsh put up an 83, and Ryan Wittler shot a 90. In the Class ‘B’ competition at Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island, Beatrice is in the lead with a 301. They lead by five strokes. Samuel Morse of Columbus Lakeview shot a 70 to grab the opening round lead. He leads by two strokes. In Class ‘C’ at Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, Hastings St. Cecilia has the lead with a 314. They lead by five strokes. Hartington Cedar Catholic is in third place with a 320. Sam Meuret of Plainview has grabbed the opening day lead with a 68. He leads by a single stroke. Teammate Colin Wright shot a 72 and is in sixth place. Jamy McCoy of Laurel/Concord/Coleridge is in seventh place with a 73, and Hartington Cedar Catholic’s Dalton Lammers is eighth with a 74. In the Class ‘D’ competition at Kearney Country Club, Thayer Central has the team lead with a 332. Bancroft/Rosalie is second with a 334 and Fullerton is fourth with a 354. Thayer Central’s Jay Cottam has the lead with a 71. Humphrey St. Francis’ Trevor Kosch is second carding a 74. Teammate Michael Brockhaus and Bancroft/Rosalie’s Preston Peters are tied for third with a 76. The event concludes today starting at 9:30 AM. 71 golfers from the Northeast Nebraska area are in competition.
