Coaches chosen for inaugural Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic

Coaches have been selected for the first Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic, which will be played on June 8 at Norfolk’s Veterans Memorial Field.  Retired National Hall of Fame football coach Bob Schnitzler of Battle Creek will coach the ‘White’ team and long-time Northeast Nebraska area football coach Rich Rethwisch of Wayne will coach the ‘Red’ team.  Mike Fuehrer, Sports Development Manager for the Norfolk Area Sports Council, said the All-Star Classic Board of Directors unanimously approved both head coaches at a recent meeting.  Neither Schnitzler nor Rethwisch are active football coaches.  Schnitzler, who is now a commentator for football broadcasts on 106 KIX, will be assisted by Lindsay Holy Family’s Bill Mimick, Elgin Public/Pope John’s Carlie Wells, Oakland/Craig’s Joe Anderson, Osmond’s Rod Brummels and Norfolk High’s Steve Porter.  Rethwisch will be assisted by Norfolk Catholic’s Jeff Bellar & Tim Kassmeier, Creighton’s Jeff Jensen, Greg Warneke of Pierce and Niobrara/Verdigre’s Doug Konopasek.  The Classic will include players from 59 Northeast Nebraska High School teams.  The game will feature athletes from eleven-man, eight-man, and six-man competition.  Coaches and players will be determined at a later date for the inaugural game.  Faith Regional Health Services is the Title sponsor.
