Boys State Golf Championships reach conclusion
The Boys State Golf Championships wrapped up today at various sites. In Class ‘A’, at Holmes Golf Course in Lincoln, Omaha Creighton Prep is the team champion shooting a two-day total of 562. They won by 32 strokes. Norfolk carded a 313 on Thursday to finish eighth with a 624 total. Omaha Creighton Prep’s Benjamin Maschka was the medalist with a two-day total of 136. He won by a single stroke. Norfolk’s Alex Strom tied for seventh with a 144 after shooting a 76 on Thursday. Teammate Ross Gerber carded a 155, Devan Maas shot 160, Preston Marsh put up a 165, and Ryan Wittler shot a 174. In the Class ‘B’ competition at Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island, McCook beat Beatrice in a one-hole playoff. Both shot a 609. Samuel Morse of Columbus Lakeview was the medalist with a 140. He won by three strokes. O’Neil’s Nathan Gotschall tied for sixth place with a 149 and Wayne’s Kaje Maly tied for 15th place with a 154. In Class ‘C’ at Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, Hastings St. Cecilia won the team title with a 622. They won by 18 strokes. Hartington Cedar Catholic finished fourth with a 643. Gibbon’s Rylee Reinertson was the medalist shooting a 136. Sam Meuret of Plainview took second with a 137. Hartington Cedar Catholic’s Dalton Lammers got seventh place with a 150, Plainview’s Colin Wright tied for eighth with a 151, West Point Guardian Angels’ Cody Steuter tied for eleventh place carding a 153, and Stanton’s Brook Klinetobe tied for 15th with a 154. In the Class ‘D’ competition at Kearney Country Club, Thayer Central was the team champion with a 666. They won by 13 strokes. Bancroft/Rosalie took third with a 680, Fullerton was fourth shooting a 702, and Hartington High placed fifth with a 706. Humphrey St. Francis’ Trevor Kosch was the medalist with a 150 winning in a one-hole playoff. Teammate Michael Brockhaus placed third with a 156, Bancroft/Rosalie’s Auston Darnell took fourth carding a 157, teammate Preston Peters shot 160 to place seventh, and West Holt’s Alex Fritz tied for eleventh place shooting a 166. 71 golfers from the Northeast Nebraska area are in competition.
