The Norfolk High girls & boys basketball teams split a home doubleheader with Millard West at the Panther Gym. The Norfolk boys dumped Millard West in their game 75-59. Jalen Bradley scored 24 points, had six rebounds, and had two steals in the win. Teammate Alex Starkel netted 18 points and collected nine boards. Tremain Monroe poured in 15 points, had six rebounds, blocked two shots, and had two steals and Taylor Reedy added ten points in the win. The Panthers led 37-28 at halftime. They will visit Lincoln Southeast tonight at 6:30. The game can be heard on Newstalk WJAG 105.9 & WJAG.com starting at 6:10. The Norfolk girls were beaten by Millard West 49-26 in their game. Jaida Carley led the Lady Panthers with seven points and four rebounds in a losing effort. Norfolk was outscored 21-6 in the second half. They will play Omaha Marian at Omaha Creighton Prep High School at 5:00 today.
The Norfolk Catholic girls & boys basketball teams swept a doubleheader at Madison. The Defending State Champion boys team won easily 68-18. Conner Ketter scored 15 points, had five rebounds, and nabbed two steals. Teammate Ethan Hale added ten points. The Lady Knights had no problem with Madison winning 84-19. Michaela Barry scored 16 points and had eight steals. Teammate Paige Marsden pumped in 14 points with six rebounds. Abbey Clayton added eleven points and Emily Tielke netted ten points and six steals. Both Knights teams are 1-0 to start the season.
The Lutheran High Northeast boys basketball team opened their campaign with an 80-26 home win over Emerson/Hubbard in the opening round of the Northeast Nebraska Tip-off Classic. They will play Wisner/Pilger in the Championship Game on Saturday at 7:45 in Wisner. Wisner/Pilger beat West Point Guardian Angels in their first round game 64-58.
The Northeast Hawks men’s basketball team picked up their second win of the year yesterday beating Quakerdale Prep of Iowa 67-64 in Hutchinson, Kansas. Cameron Adderley scored 22 points, collected 14 rebounds, and had two steals to lead the Hawks. Teammate Jacquard Hagan netted 16 points, had five boards, dished out four assists, and had two steals in the win. Northeast led 33-24 at halftime. They are now 2-6 on the season and will play eighth ranked Hutchinson Community College of Kansas tonight at 7:30.
The Northeast Hawks women’s basketball squad had their five game win streak snapped as they fell at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa 71-54. Sasha Carter scored 23 points, tore down eight rebounds, had four assists, blocked two shots, and had three steals in a losing effort. Teammate Andrea Johnson netted ten points. The Hawks trailed at the half 38-18. They fall to 7-4 on the year and will play Butler County Community College of Kansas today at 1:00 in Council Bluffs.
The Norfolk High wrestling team placed third at yesterday’s Fremont Invite. Papillion La Vista was the champion with 271 points, Sioux City East was second with 198.5 and Norfolk was third with 175. Individually, Landen Thieman was the champion at 170 pounds. Elliott Matteo, Colby Austin, Blake Andersen, Dan Kumm, and Christian Hernandez-Dehorta took second. Brady Mueller and Cody Merchant placed third. Tyler Baker, Aaron Wells, Kyle Temple, and Colton Bernhardt got fifth. Shawn Bruzek and Ethan Gansebom were sixth.
