All-Star Basketball Games held at Northeast Community College

    The 29th annual Northeast Nebraska All-Star Basketball Games were held at Northeast Community College on Friday night.  In the boys game, the ‘Dark’ team beat the ‘Light’ squad 111-77.  The ‘Dark’ outscored the “Light’ 60-28 in the second half after leading 51-49 at half-time.  Norfolk High’s Jalen Bradley led five players in double figures for the ‘Dark’ team with 22 points.  He hit six three-pointers. Panther teammate Alex Starkel scored 20 points, collected eleven rebounds, blocked six shots, and had five steals.  Also for the ‘Dark’ squad, Wisner/Pilger’s Derick Hass netted 16 points.  He nailed five three-pointers.  Norfolk High’s Tremain Monroe had 15 points and Ponca’s Trenton Peterson added 14 points.  The ‘Light’ team’s R.J. Burtwistle led three players in double figures with 15 points and seven rebounds.  He had five three-pointers.  O’Neill St. Mary’s Tait Sibbel scored 13 points and eleven rebounds.  O’Neill’s Jordyn Johnson had twelve points.  Starkel & Sibbel were named the Fred Letheby Most Valuable Players.
    In the girls game, the ‘Dark’ team beat the ‘Light’ squad 62-58.  Liz Gebhardt of Lutheran High Northeast led the ‘Dark’ with 14 points, five rebounds, five blocked shots, and two steals.  The ‘Light’ team was paced by Boone Central’s Jaime Kennedy’s eleven points, four steals, and three blocked shots.  She hit three three-pointers.  Teammate Abigael Olson of West Holt recorded a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.  The ‘Light’ squad led at half-time 29-23.  Gebhardt & Olson were named the Fred Letheby Most Valuable Players.
