Softball Game Will Benefit Cancer Research

NORFOLK - The Norfolk Golden Girls Under-18 softball team has been playing games all summer, but there will be something a little different about Monday's double header.  The team will be raising money for breast and pancreatic cancer research when it hosts Columbus Fire and Ice at Liberty Bell Park.  Golden Girls’ outfielder Hunter McCarter says that for some of her teammates, the cause hits close to home.  Golden Girls' family members who have battled cancer will throw out the first pitch.  Game times for the twin bill are 6 and 8 p.m.  The team will be selling hot dog meals for $5 each prior to the first pitch.  A silent auction, a raffle and a hair-bow sale are also planned.  Game admission is free, but the team will take donations.  All of the proceeds will go to the Carson Cancer Center.
