Second Area Lake Placed Under Alert

NORFOLK - A second Northeast Nebraska lake has been placed under a Toxic Algae alert. Two weeks ago, water in the Willow Creek Lake near Pierce tested high in toxins from blue-green algae. Now Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District Assistant General Manager Ken Berney says a similar alert has been issued for Maskenthine Lake near Stanton. Berney says recreational boating and fishing are permitted on both lakes, but people are advised to avoid activities that could involve accidental ingesting of water, and to avoid full immersion in the water. Public areas for camping, picnics and other outdoor activities remain open.
