Kevin Garnett had 16 points, 18 rebounds and five assists as the Boston Celtics beat the Knicks 92-86 in New York to force a sixth game of the NBA's conference quarterfinal series.  The Knicks still lead 3-2.  The Indiana Pacers own a 3-2 lead in their opening-round series after David West scored 24 points and Paul George added 21 in a 106-83 win over Atlanta.  And James Harden's seven three-pointers and 31 points lifted Houston past Oklahoma City 107-100, stretching that series to a sixth game.  The Thunder still lead 3-2.

A guard from a Kansas junior college has signed a letter of intent to play basketball next season at Creighton.  James Milliken averaged better than 18 points a game and shot 42% on three-pointers for Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas, last season.  He was named to the All-Jayhawk Conference first team and was a first-team all-region pick. Milliken had 32 points and eight three-pointers in a January game and was the 39th junior-college prospect by the website jucorecruiting.com.  Creighton coach Greg McDermott said the 6’2 Milliken can score in a variety of ways and will fit in perfectly with the Bluejays as they move into the Big East Conference.  He'll have two years of eligibility.  Milliken is the fifth newcomer on the 2013-14 Creighton roster.

News Briefs:

Lawmakers are reviving a debate on a stalled Medicaid expansion bill, with one senator arguing that a failure to act would force hospital closures and contribute to the "atrophy" of rural Nebraska. Sen. Steve Lathrop of Omaha raised the issue Wednesday as lawmakers debated an unrelated bill. He was followed by several others who led the push to expand coverage as part of the federal health care law. The bill stalled last month after supporters failed to overcome a filibuster. Lathrop says a failure to expand Medicaid would force an estimated one in six Nebraska hospitals to close, including many that serve as economic anchors for small towns. Lathrop argues that a loss of rural hospitals would force residents to travel further for medical care.

Authorities are offering up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest of a man suspected of shooting a Sioux City police officer. Sioux City Police Chief Doug Young says the reward for helping to find 22-year-old Jamal Dean is being offered by the United States Marshal Service and Crime Stoppers, as well as anonymous donations. Police say Dean shot Officer Kevin McCormick after a routine traffic stop Monday. McCormick was still in his cruiser when Dean got out of the passenger side of his vehicle and allegedly fired a rifle several times toward the cruiser. Dean fled the area by foot and has been on the run since then. McCormick was struck in the forehead above the eye. He underwent surgery and has been released from the hospital.

Even though the weather isn’t exactly right for planting things, it is time to pick up the plants ordered from Christ Lutheran elementary students. About 80,000 plants have been pre-ordered, and this is the weekend. You can pick them up at the Chuck M. Pohlman Ag Complex at Northeast Community College from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to noon on Saturday. There will be a potting shed on the site. Gardeners may bring their own containers or use those provided in the shed. Christ Lutheran students will assist with plant purchases and also help carry plants to your vehicle.
