Police in Boston have released a new photo showing the man believed to be a suspect in the marathon bombings, shown in earlier footage in a white hat.  In the new photo, he's wearing a gray hoodie sweatshirt pulled up on his head.  The photo was taken at a 7-Eleven in Cambridge, just across the river from Boston.  Associated Press sources identify the man as 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, of Cambridge, Massachusetts.  He is the bombing suspect who is still alive.  The other bombing suspect was killed overnight in an exchange of gunfire with police.  The sources also say both men are from a region of Russia near Chechnya, and have lived in the United States for at least a year.

The Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens will open the 2013 season at Denver in the now-traditional Thursday night kickoff game.  The NFL champs usually host the opener, but the Orioles are home September 5th and could not move their game.  So $121 million quarterback Joe Flacco and the Ravens were sent to Denver, to face Peyton Manning and the team they beat in double overtime on their way to the Super Bowl.  Baltimore preferred beginning the season Thursday night on the road rather than at home on Sunday.  Other schedule highlights announced last night were Manning returning to Indianapolis on Sunday night, October 20; Manning against younger brother Eli and the Giants in Week Two at the Meadowlands; and new Kansas City coach Andy Reid returning to Philadelphia with the Chiefs on Thursday night, September 19.

News Briefs:

More than 1,000 people have gathered in Grand Island to support or oppose a Canada-to-Texas oil pipeline that would snake through six states. Anti-pipeline activists say they're hopeful President Barack Obama will reject the project after getting Secretary of State John Kerry's recommendation. But some, including Nebraska rancher Bruce Boettcher, told State Department representatives at Thursday's hearing that opponents would stop the project regardless of the government's decision. Opponents argue the pipeline, which would carry 800,000 barrels of oil daily, would threaten the region's water supply if it ruptured. They note the pipeline runs above part of a huge aquifer that provides water to much of the Midwest. Supporters say pipelines are the safest way to transport oil and that the pipeline company agreed to safeguards exceeding federal regulations.

Nebraska 1st District Congressman Jeff Fortenberry says the country is burned out over the constant drama occurring in Washington, particularly concerning the budget. Fortenberry told WJAG News that Congress should approach budgeting the way Nebraskans budget for government, business and everyday life. Fortenberry says it would serve the country well if Congress were to adopt what he calls the Nebraska Model: don’t spend more than you have, focus on fiscal discipline and deliver smart and effective government services. Fortenberry says congress has made some big strides, but that it still has a long way to go before balancing the budget. The Congressman says tax reform and reduced spending are the keys. He says if congress does those things, it will help to decrease uncertainty in the economy and start to turn things around.
