Norfolk's new stormwater management ordinance has been approved and will go into effect before the end of the year. At this week's meeting of the Mayor and City Council, City Prevention Manager Trent Howard explained that he had talked with members of the Home Builders Association, and they approved of having the measure passed on the final two votes. The ordinance was approved on first reading at the last city council meeting, November 19th, and at that time councilmen agreed to vote three separate times on the ordinance.
A college student from Norfolk is recovering after being shot in the face while in an Omaha Burger King drive-through because he refused to give up his car to a would-be thief. Omaha police say 21-year-old Alexander Dike, a 2009 Graduate of Norfolk High was shot shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday while at a restaurant in central Omaha near 72nd and Grover streets. Dike told police that a man with a gun approached his car while he was in the drive-through and demanded that Dike get out of the car. Instead of complying, Dike instead rolled up his window and then heard gunshots. Police interviewed witnesses at the Burger King for more than two hours Tuesday, but hadn't made any arrests by Wednesday afternoon.
The man accused in a downtown Norfolk shooting will remain in the Madison County Jail for now, after failing to have his bail reduced. 28-year-old Jordan Beehn appeared before Madison County Judge Richard Krepela Tuesday, asking that his $975,000 bond be reduced to $100,000. His attorney, Charles Balsiger, said Beehn has close ties to the community of Madison and a business there, and was not a flight risk. But Judge Krepela ruled that the bond reflected the seriousness of the crime for which Beehn is charged.
