Mike D'Antoni's agent says the Los Angeles Lakers have signed the former coach of the Suns and Knicks to a four-year contract to replace Mike Brown.  The deal was confirmed late last night, two days after the Lakers fired Brown five games into the season.  D'Antoni got the job over former Lakers coach Phil Jackson.  The eleven-time NBA champion coach spoke to the club's top brass Saturday about a return.  Instead, the Lakers went with D'Antoni, who spent five seasons coaching Lakers point guard Steve Nash in Phoenix.  D'Antoni then coached New York for the past three seasons, resigning last March.  The Lakers beat Sacramento 103-90 last night for their second straight win under interim coach Bernie Bickerstaff.

News Briefs:

Madison County Clerk Nancy Scheer reports that the Board of Canvassers finished their work last week, and all election results are now official. Scheer says the final numbers have been posted to the county web site - co.Madison.ne.us. She says several hundred early and provisional ballots were counted and added to the totals from Election Day, but the additions did not affect the outcome of any races. Scheer says results from write in candidates for some positions have also been posted on the web site.

The Speaker of the Nebraska Legislature is expected to formally announce plans tonight to run for governor in 2014. 37-year-old Mike Flood has been contemplating a gubernatorial run for several months, and says he put off the announcement until after last week's election to avoid taking any of the focus off Deb Fischer's run for U.S. Senate. In an ad in Saturday's Norfolk Daily News, Flood and his wife, Mandi, invited citizens to join them at 7 p.m. tonight at the Divot's Conference Center for the announcement. Families are welcome.

Randy Dee, the manager of Norfolk Country Inn and Bailey's Bistro and Lounge, has a big, bare wall outside of his office, and he is asking for the public's help in decorating it. Dee says he would like to fill the wall with pictures of veterans and active military personnel. Dee says digital photos can be e-mailed to him at GM@norfolkcountryinn.com. Regular photos can be brought to the front desk at the Country Inn where staff will scan them and return them immediately.

The author of a book about filmmaker Alexander Payne will sign copies of his book tomorrow night in the Norfolk Public Library. Leo Biga, author of the book "Alexander Payne: His Journey in Film," will present a program and sign copies of his book beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Library. Biga enjoyed unusual access to Payne for more than 15 years, and has compiled his stories about the two-time Oscar-winner's work. Payne has been in the Norfolk area for the past several weeks, shooting scenes for his next film, called "Nebraska."

A traffic change is planned tomorrow on the Highway 35 construction project on the southeast edge of Norfolk. Nebraska Department of Roads Highway Project Manager Doug Lollman says traffic will be routed onto the new northbound lanes of the project between Norfolk and Omaha Avenues.
