Georgia and the Nebraska football teams will play in the postseason for the second straight year. The BCS 22nd ranked Bulldogs and Cornhuskers were paired in the Gator Bowl yesterday, a rematch of last year's Capital One Bowl. Georgia won that meeting 45-31, getting five touchdown passes from Aaron Murray. The Bulldogs, who are 8-4, won't have Murray in the rematch. The Southeastern Conference's all-time passing leader tore a ligament in his left knee Nov. 23 against Kentucky.
Doug McDermott led three players in double figures with 33 points and eight rebounds and Creighton built a big lead quickly and ran off to an 82-67 victory over Nebraska yesterday. The Huskers got 22 points from Shavon Shields. Terran Petteway had 17 of his 21 points in the second half for Nebraska. He also had six rebounds. Creighton has won twelve of 16 meetings with the Cornhuskers since 1999 but still trails 25-22 in the series that dates to 1923. The Bluejays improve to 7-2 while Nebraska drops to 6-3.

A member of the University of Nebraska's Board of Regents has resigned from his job at Bo Pelini's Foundation. Tim Clare resigned as legal counsel for Pelini's foundation on Friday. Clare had worked for the foundation Pelini started in 2008 since before he was elected to the Board of Regents, and he had disclosed his relationship with Nebraska's head football coach. Clare says he didn't want his role at the foundation to be a distraction because of his elected office. The foundation raises money for cancer research and juvenile and adult diabetes. Clare has recused himself from any votes related to University of Nebraska-Lincoln athletics personnel.
Nebraska landowners and operators have until Jan. 17 to sign up for a federal conservation program. The Conservation Stewardship Program provides financial aid to help farmers and ranchers conserve natural resources, including water and soil. The program is run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Participants receive annual payments for the environmental benefits they produce on their operations. Craig Derickson of the Natural Resources Conservation Service says contracts have gone into effect in all 93 counties, and cover about 4.8 million acres in Nebraska. Derickson says the program is popular in Nebraska because it doesn't require farmers and ranchers to take their land out of production.
Only one week remains for those wishing to take part in this year’s “Warmth, Peace and Pajamas” project. Pam Sears helps spearhead the Salvation Army project to provide a warm pair of pajamas for about 700 children in the community. She says all sizes are needed – some more than others. Sears says pajamas of all sizes are needed, but they especially need PJs for boys ages 10-to-16. Sears says pajamas – with the tags still on so children know they're new - can be left at the Salvation Army at 112 North 7th, or at the WJAG/LiteRock 97.5/106KIX studios at 309 Braasch Avenue. The pajamas must be received by December 18th for distribution on the 20th.
