Josh Freeman is headed to Minnesota. He has agreed to a one-year deal for $3 million. Freeman was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, a week after being benched in favor of rookie Mike Glennon. The winless Bucs made the latest move during their bye week after general manager Mark Dominik contacted every other team in the NFL in an unsuccessful attempt to trade Freeman, a 4,000-yard passer a year ago and the team's career leader with 1,144 completions and 80 touchdowns.

The mayor of Wayne says the clean up is progressing amazingly fast in his city, hit about 5:30 Friday night by a tornado rated as an EF4 by the National Weather Service. Ken Chamberlain told reporters at a briefing Sunday night he has no doubt the cleanup and rebuilding process will move ahead smoothly. Volunteers are needed to help manage the debris, both in Wayne and in the agricultural land nearby. The Red Cross is handling the volunteers, and people can go to the Red Cross center at the National Guard Armory in Wayne or use the 211 system to register. That can be accessed by either dialing 211 from you phone or using the website 211.org. The 211 system also works for those who need assistance.
A decision on downtown stoplights is on the agenda for tonight's meeting of the Norfolk City Council. In the spring, stoplights at the intersections of Norfolk Avenue with 2nd and 3rd streets were covered and replaced with stop signs for north-south traffic. The idea was to see if the stoplights could be removed from those two intersections, or if $12,000 should be spent on each of the lights for updates. A hearing was held at the last city council meeting, and most of those testifying favored restoring the lights for pedestrian safety and for the convenience of those trying to back out from downtown parking spaces. City councilmen will weigh in on the issue tonight. The City Council meeting will begin at 5:30 in the Council Chambers at 309 North 5th Street.

The Northeast Nebraska area has received significant rain in the last few days - but that doesn't mean the fire danger is past. Norfolk City Fire Marshal Terry Zwiebel reminds producers that fire - especially in an open area - will double in size every 30 seconds. Zwiebel urges producers to keep all screens on equipment clean and to make sure they have two fire extinguishers - one in the cab and one at ground level. And when fighting a field fire, be sure to leave a route of escape.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday for the owner of a Norfolk restaurant. 49-year-old Alan Franklin died Saturday at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
