Denver's defense forced four turnovers in leading the Broncos to their third Super Bowl title, 24-10 over Carolina.  The victory gives 39-year-old Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning a 2-2 lifetime record in Super Bowls in his 200th career victory, an NFL record.  Manning was coy about whether this Super Bowl was the final game of his illustrious career.  He said he would "take some time to reflect" and said he would not make a retirement decision based on the emotion of the moment.  Linebacker Von Miller earned Super Bowl MVP honors after forcing two fumbles and getting 2 ½ sacks to help the Denver Broncos beat Carolina in Super Bowl 50.  Five years after being drafted second behind Cam Newton, Miller harassed Carolina's quarterback from start to finish, forcing two fumbles leading directly to 14 Denver points.

The Creighton men’s basketball team got its second commitment for its 2017 recruiting class from a Kansas boy with a Jayhawk basketball scholarship offer in his back pocket.  The Omaha World Herald reports that Mitchell Ballock, a 6’4 sharpshooting guard from Eudora, Kansas, informed Creighton’s staff yesterday that he will sign a letter of intent next fall to become a Bluejay.  Unfortunately for Ballock, a torn labrum in his left shoulder that required surgery last fall has kept him off the court this season.  As a sophomore, Ballock averaged 20 points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Omaha World Herald has updated its high school boys basketball rankings.  The Norfolk Panthers enter the rankings at number nine after splitting two games over the weekend.  They are 13-6 on the season after routing previously fourth ranked Fremont last Friday at home 81-51.  The Panthers then dropped a 69-61 decision at sixth ranked Millard West on Saturday.  Norfolk returns to action on Friday when they host 12-6 Kearney.

News Briefs:

Officials with the Norfolk Family YMCA are ramping up plans to begin what they hope is a three-phase capital campaign that will generate funds to expand the fitness center, create a multi-purpose field house and build a second swimming pool. The Y’s executive director Randy Hagedorn says they hope to begin the campaign in the fall and look to raise about $10-million for the fitness-center expansion and field house. The cost for the second pool would be around $4-million and would be part of the campaign’s third phase.

Advocates for survivors of sexual assaults in Nebraska say some victims mistakenly receive statements for medical costs of sexual assault exams, despite state and federal law prohibiting such notices. A measure proposed to the Nebraska Legislature would create a state fund for the charges that pile up when a victim reports a sexual assault, ensuring survivors will not be charged with paying for going to the hospital.

More than 100,000 square miles of land are enrolled in the Conservation Stewardship Program, formerly the Conservation Security Program. The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency has launched a new website designed to be more user friendly. The agency says the site's new look should make it more intuitive and easier to navigate. Along with a new appearance, the site will offer more features to users including a sortable calendar, an email subscription service and online registrations for events.

Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health officials are asking residents of Madison, Stanton, Cuming and Burt counties to complete a community health survey by the end of February. The data compiled will be used by the health department to best serve the needs of the service area. The survey can be accessed at the web site:
