Ryan Hander solved plenty of problems on the mound and Pat Kelly and company answered any other questions at the plate to help Nebraska slammed Penn State 12-3 Thursday in a Big Ten Tournament elimination game at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio.  Nebraska will play Ohio State at 11 a.m. in an elimination game Friday, and if the Huskers win, they would play Michigan State at 2:30.  To win the tourney, NU will have to win its next five games, including two games each on Friday and Saturday.  The Huskers knocked out 18 hits Thursday, including a home run by Chad Christensen and a string of three consecutive bunt singles in the five-run sixth inning.  Richard Stock was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in.

The Miami Heat are in the Eastern Conference

Finals.  The Heat rode a 41-point performance by Dwyane Wade and used a 9-0 run at the end of the third quarter to eliminate the Indiana Pacers in six games, 105-93.  Wade scored 26 in the first half. LeBron James had another big game with 28 points, six rebounds and seven assists.  The Heat needed the combined 69 points from their two superstars.  Center Chris Bosh is out with an abdominal injury. Forward Udonis Haslem missed this game because of a one-game suspension for a flagrant foul.  But Heat coach Erik Spoelstra says his team "has enough" to get to the NBA Finals.  Indiana had a 2-1 series lead before the Heat regrouped to win the final three games.  Said losing coach Frank Vogel of the Heat: "They're going to be tough to beat by anybody."  Miami now awaits the winner of the Boston-Philadelphia conference semifinal.

News Briefs:

Approximately 30 employees of the Tyson Fresh Meats plant in Madison were exposed to a chemical leak Thursday night. But an official at Faith Regional Health Services says the ten employees who ended up being transported to the Norfolk hospital suffered minor inhalation of ammonia. Vice President of Patient Care Services Kelly Driscoll says they were all treated and released. Driscoll says Faith Regional immediately activated its Emergency Operations Plan once they were notified of the situation. The patients started arriving at around 8:45 p.m. Other workers were treated at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus. A spokesman for Tyson was unavailable for comment.

Another round of thunderstorms passed through Nebraska late Thursday afternoon. The National Weather Service reports a tornado damaged a farmstead two miles west and one mile north of Cornlea around 5:30 p.m. A house had  its roof taken off and most of its walls collapsed. No injuries have been reported. No other information has been released. The storm produced another round of rain in Norfolk -- dropping about .15 of an inch Thursday afternoon

Children playing with "flammable products" has been attributed as the cause of a Norfolk house fire Thursday afternoon. Norfolk Fire Division Captain John Reding says firefighters were called to 607 Walnut Ave. around 5:15 p.m. after reports of smoke and fire coming from the house. Everyone inside got out safely. Damage to house is estimated at $50,000.

Temperatures are rising and gasoline prices are falling -- a welcome combination for Nebraskans who are planning Memorial Day weekend getaways. Nebraska AAA Motor Club spokesman Gail Weinholzer says there's a direct correlation between the drop in fuel costs and the expected rise in travel.

Extra Nebraska State Patrol officers will be on the roads this weekend, not to write tickets but to keep drivers and their passengers safe. Sergeant Jon Goode in Norfolk says he continues to notice an increase in distracted driving, especially by those talking on cell phones and texting.

Eight members of the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Future Business Leaders of America have qualified to attend the organization's national convention. To raise money, the FBLA will host "Reza the Illusionist" at the Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk this Thursday night at 7:00.
