LeBron James scored a game-high 32 points after collecting his third league MVP trophy in four years in a pre-game ceremony, and Miami beat the visiting Indiana Pacers 95-86 in the opener of their NBA Eastern Conference semifinal.  James also contributed 15 rebounds and five assists while teammate Dwyane Wade chipped in with 29 points.  Heat center Chris Bosh didn't play in the second half after leaving the game late in the second quarter due to a lower abdominal strain.  He scored 13 points on 6-11 shooting.  Bosh was scheduled for an MRI to determine the extent of the problem.  Roy Hibbert and David West scored 17 points each to lead the Pacers.  Game Two in the best-of-seven series is scheduled for Tuesday night in South Florida.

For just the third time in their 41-year franchise history, the Los Angeles Clippers have won a playoff series.  Kenyon Martin scored seven of his eleven points in the fourth quarter in the Clippers' 82-72 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in Game Seven of their opening round series to send the Clippers into a second-round matchup against top-seeded San Antonio.

Manchester United's celebrations turned to heartache yesterday as the team's 1-0 win at Sunderland couldn't prevent Manchester City from winning the Premier League title with a last-gasp comeback victory on the final day of the Season.  United thought it had done enough to hold on to the title in unlikely fashion when Queens Park Rangers held a 2-1 lead at City going into injury time, before two late goals by their rivals secured a 3-2 win,  United's players left the field in Sunderland with shell-shocked expressions, while the fans looked at each other in disbelief and stood with hands on heads in a stunned silence.  The top two were even in points going into the final round, and City used its better goal difference to clinch its first title since 1968.
