After a successful season with the Bluejays in 2010, Creighton men's soccer head coach Jamie Clark has resigned to fill the head coaching vacancy at the University of Washington.  Creighton Director of Athletics Bruce Rasmussen has announced the search to replace Clark is already underway.  Clark spent just one season in Omaha, leading the Bluejays to a Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship in 2010.  They posted a 5-1-1 record in conference play, earning Clark and his staff MVC Coaching Staff of the Year honors.  Creighton earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, defeating New Mexico in the first round before being eliminated at seventh-ranked SMU in the second round.  The Bluejays finished the season 13-5-2 and ranked 14th in the final NSCAA poll.

The Northeast Hawks men’s basketball team has added to its win total in an unusual way.  Hawks coach Dan Anderson was recently informed by NJCAA that they have won via forfeit from a game played on January 7th against Southeastern Community College of Iowa.  The Blackhawks had an illegal player involved in the 92-58 win over Northeast in Burlington, Iowa.  Southeastern was ranked twelfth in the nation in Division I at the time and are currently ranked 24th.  The Hawks record is now 15-6 on the season and winners of nine games in a row.  The win streak is currently the eighth longest in the nation in Division I.

News Briefs:
Gov. Dave Heineman has presented his case for eliminating state aid to cities, counties and natural resource districts to the Nebraska Legislature's Revenue Committee. Heineman said Wednesday the elimination was necessary to help the state balance its two-year budget. Some projections have put the state's budget gap at more than $1 billion. Heineman says the aid to local governments makes up a small percentage of each local budget while saving the state some $44 million over two years. But nearly a dozen local government representatives testified against the measure, saying that even small cuts will be painful as local governments also deal with the economic downturn. They also said the cuts would result in high property taxes.

A 28-year-old man has been accused of using his computer to entice teenage girls, including at least one who was a student of his in Tilden. Court documents say Lee Burenheide is charged with two counts of enticement by electronic communication device. A school official says Burenheide resigned last week from teaching science at Elkhorn Valley High School.

Hundreds of Nebraskans joined thousands of other pro-life advocates this week as they descended on the nation's capitol for the "March for Life Rally" to mark the 38th anniversary of the Supreme Court's ruling legalizing abortion. But it was a stop in Philadelphia two days before that really made an impact on the students in the Nebraska delegation. They stood outside an abortion clinic with about 200-to-300 people who hold prayer vigils there every Saturday. Norfolk Catholic High School Sophomore Lukas Steffen called it an eye opening experience.
