The Cleveland Browns have hired Carolina offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski as their new coach.  Chudzinski first head coaching job comes with the team he loved as a kid.  The 44-year old had two previous assistant coaching stints with the Browns in 2004 and 2007.  He becomes Cleveland's sixth full-time coach since 1999.  Chudzinski, who grew up in Ohio and rooted for the Browns as a kid, interviewed with the team on Wednesday.  He has spent the past two years with Carolina working with quarterback Cam Newton.  The Browns have been searching for a coach since firing Pat Shurmur on Dec. 31 after a 5-11 season.


John Karhoff scored 20 points, CJ Carter added 19 and the hot-shooting Nebraska-Omaha men’s basketball team withstood a late rally for a 90-79 victory over Indiana-Purdue University last night in the first-ever meeting between the schools.  The Mavericks shot 62% from the floor.  UNO is now 5-14 overall and 2-5 in the Summit League while the Jaguars are now 6-14 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Keith Harvey took over as chairman of the Northeast Community College Board of Governors when the board reorganized for the year yesterday.  John Davies will serve as vice chairman, with Gene Wilers as secretary.  Steve Anderson is the board's past president.


The Norfolk Public Library will host a drop-in training on borrowing e-books Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Library Director Jessica Chamberlain says the library has a large selection of e-books, and patrons may check out up to four at any time.  There's no need to return them, they just automatically disappear from your mobile device when the borrowing period is up.  


A registered dietician from Faith Regional Health Services says if you have already abandoned your New Year's resolution to lose weight, you may need to make a more specific resolution.  Vicki Brown says it is important to set goals that are reasonable and attainable.  


Regulations are being considered in three areas of the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District to deal with declining ground water levels during irrigation season.  Curt Becker, NRD water resources specialist, will discuss proposed regulations and cost-share programs to help producers better manage irrigation during next week's Northeast Nebraska Farm and Equipment Show, hosted by NewsTalk WJAG.  Becker's presentation begins at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Chuck M. Pohlman Ag Complex at Northeast Community College.  Hours for the show are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday.   


The chief justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court will deliver a speech to the Legislature next week. Mike Heavican will highlight the judiciary's proprieties for 2013 during Thursday's speech.


A 52-year-old man who was accused of filming female co-workers in a South Sioux City locker room will be sentenced next month. Larry Wolf pleaded no contest to an unlawful intrusion charge as part of a deal with prosecutors.


 Nebraska health officials say they're writing thousands of fewer checks each month because of electronic payments. The switch to electronic deposits is saving the state Department of Health and Human Services both money and time.


 Warren Buffett's company now has a 14.5 percent stake in the kidney dialysis firm DaVita. Regulatory filings show that Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway now owns 13.8 million shares of the company.
