Ponca State Park to Host National Championship Fruitcake Fling

NORFOLK - Need something to keep yourself busy during the week between Christmas and New Years?  Check  out the second annual National Championship Fruitcake Fling at Ponca State Park.  It’s part of Winter Fest Saturday.  Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a variety of crafts and other activities, the park’s assistant superintendent Tyler Wulf says the highlight of the day gets underway two hours later.  The park will supply the bird-friendly fruitcakes, so the ones you received as gifts at home.  At 1:30 it’s the 3-K snow run which includes the quest for the yule log.  You can register your three-to-five-member team by calling (402) 755-2284.       A $5 soup lunch, a bonfire and hayrack rides round out the day.  Except for the lunch and a $5 vehicle park permit, everything’s free.  For more information, visit the web site OutdoorNebraska.NE.gov
