Petition To Increase The Madison County Board From 3 To 5

Petitions to add two members to the Madison County Board must be turned in to the County Clerk by Monday, August 27th. Rob Dover, a member of the group circulating petitions to put the question on the November 6th ballot, says about 1069 signatures are needed. The petitions seek to increase the size of the board from the current three commissioners to five. Dover says one of the main reasons for the change is that only two members are needed for a quorum of the board - leading to concerns about accidently violating the state's open meetings law. Dover says there has been some concern that adding more commissioners would increase Norfolk's representation on the board - but that is not true. Dover says petitions are available at his office, Coldwell Bankers Dover Realtors. Those with questions may contact Dover or Ron Stauffer.
