Northeast Community College celebrates 40 years Saturday

NORFOLK - Alumni, former staff and the general public are all invited to the Northeast Community College campus Saturday afternoon to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the local two-year college.  Northeast began as a part of the Norfolk Public Schools in 1928, was closed briefly in 1932, and reopened as Norfolk Junior Collge in the 1940s.  But in 1968, the Nebraska Legislature started talks to merge all of the state's two-year colleges into a single community colege system.  The purchase of the merger was to bring academic and technical training together, providing a seamless education at an affordable price.  A barbecue luncheon will be served to the first 250 in line at noon Saturday, with tours of the campus planned from 1 until 4.
