Norfolk's Snow and Ice Plan Mostly Unchanged

NORFOLK - Just in time for the first snow forecast, the City of Norfolk’s snow and ice plan was reviewed Monday night by the City Council.  City Operations Manager Gary Miller said the plan is pretty much the same as it has been for the past 20 years, except for the streets on the “no salt” list; those are the ones that have had new concrete poured this year.  Miller says 25th Street is not on that list, but the new roundabout on Victory Road is.  Miller says when snow falls, city crews will report at 2 a.m. and begin by clearing the emergency routes, then proceed to neighborhoods based on a plan that is posted on the city’s website. At about 5 a.m., work will begin on removing snow from the downtown area, with most of that snow trucked away.
