Norfolk Woman Not Fooled By Scam

NORFOLK - The telephone scam where a young person is in jail in a foreign country and needs $2,000 dollars to get out didn't fool a Norfolk woman. Norfolk Police Captain Leon Chapman says when the caller claiming to be the woman's grandson couldn't answer her questions, he went silent and hung up. Chapman says this scam is common during Spring Break as well as in the summer when students are on vacation. If you have been a victim of this of any type of phone scam, contact your local law enforcement agency immediately.
