Norfolk to apply for street work grants
NORFOLK - The city of Norfolk is applying for more than $400,000 in Community Development Block Grants to help repair some streets in the downtown area. At this week’s meeting, the City Council gave unanimous approval to a resolution to submit the grant application for additional funding available through the state. Tom Higginbotham, executive director of the Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District, explained that the funds go to the private sector to pay construction companies for the street work. Public Works Director Dennis Smith says the grant funding, if approved, will be used to repair Prospect Avenue between 4th and 7th streets and 5th Street from Madison to Philip Avenues. The city is required to contribute one dollar for every two dollars of CDBG funding.
